Super Cute Shrinky Dinks Bracelet

I made this really cool braclet using a sharpie on shrinky dink paper. After that, I hole punched them. Then, I baked them. Last, I put them together with jump rings.

Hmmmmm.... It's 8:15!

Have you ever asked yourself: "Well, I've got about 15 minutes..... WHAT to do?" Well, I am here to answer you whenever you happen to ask that question. To simplify what to do, I have put it in a simplified step by step process below:

1. Sit down and doodle for 5 minutes.

2. Get up and skip to all of your family members excitedly and show them the picture.

3. Get into "designer zone". Re-design your refrigerator. Put your doodle up.

4. Make up a joke in your head.

5. Skip around again and tell everybody the joke.

6. As soon as possible, go to "what did lily make today" and comment on this photo. Tell me: 1. That you tried this, and 2. What was your joke, and 3. How many people laughed at your joke.

How to get 10 things out of a vending machine for just $9

1. Save 9 1 dollar bills.
2. Use them to buy your 9 snacks. (Not at the same time, though!)
3. Collect all the change the vending machine gives you.
4. You should have 90 cents in dimes if you used the right kind of vending machine. (The kind where everything costs 90 cents)
5. If you have anything less than 90 cents, keep spending money until you have 90 cents.
6. When you have at least 90 cents, put it into the vending machine and buy yourself the eleventh thing!

May 30, 2010 Sigourney, Iowa Belva Deer Inn Room 202 Bed on the left, left side

Lily, here! Currently I am in Sigourney, a town in Iowa. The flights (we took two to get here) were long, but fun because it was my first time on a plane. It was really cool until my ears got totally plugged up and they hurt. I guess the pilot was trying to land quickly and the pressure in my ears was just too much for my ears. Iowa is pretty cool it's SO nice because it's pleasant and quiet because there are so little people. The warm wether is nice, but oh, the bugs! I think I have three bites, but I'm the one who has the least bites! Anyway, there's only a few bugs in the entire world that I really like, like one of them being a bug I saw for the first time tonight! Lightning bugs! (fireflies)
Bye! I have to go.

A few projects

Here are a few projects that I have made lateley:

1.Papier maché hairbow: I checked
out a book that tells you how to
make Papier Maché stuff, the
only problem was, it was in
spanish! Well, I could figure
it out.

2.Duct tape wallet: I went to my
friend's house and she had some
colored duct tape, do we
decided to make wallets!

3.Colored Guy: I bought a kit to
make your own little action
figure!

4. Speech notebook: I made it on
a special field trip I went on with
only two other kids! It was for my
participation in a green school program.

Sock gloves!

I made some cool gloves out of socks! How I made them:
1.Starting above the heel, make cross-stiches all the way up the back using a large needle (it doesn't need to be very pointy and it needs a large hole) and yarn.
2.Tie a knot in the remaining yarn once you get to the top and cut of excess yarn.
3.Cut off all of the toe part.
4.Cut a thumb hole. Make it very small because the fabric is very stretchy and if you cut it too large, your thumb will stretch it out so much, the hole will snap open so that it's not a hole.
5.Repeat with other glove.
6.Show them off!

Finished Plastic bag-bag!!!!!!!!

I'm so,so,so,so,so...... sorry I haven't posted in so long! But anyway, here is what my plastic bag-bag turned out like!!!!! It even has a little pocket in the front! Not too long ago, the strap broke because I put to much weight on it and the seam snapped, but that's okay, it can be fixed.

Plastic-bag bag!

Hey everyone! Like the new logo I made? I took a shirt that said I heart- so I covered up the bottom part so that it now says I heart art in the picture! (P.S. The logo is the place where it says what did lily make today at the top of my blog!) Anyway, I'm not sure if I already mentioned that my shool has a contest every year- the "RE-USE IT CONTEST" where the students-usually not teachers, I don't think they have the opportunity to win- but the students take recycled items and create craft projects and they have the opportunity to win. I am entering a pag made out of ironed plastic bags- I'll show a photo once I finish it today!

Suitcase

Sorry I haven't posted in a while!!! But my new post is a project I'm working on. It is a cardboard suitcase like the ones you see in Harry Potter or maybe, it's just like an old suitcase. Brown, leather straps, and buckles. That's kinda' what I'm thinking of. Anyway, here's a picture of the cardboard with the template (that I made) that I'm going to use.(left)

another pair of earrings!

I just went to Powells and I bought
Dangles and Bangles
by sherri haab and michelle haab.
In it, there was a craft about making
earrings. Me and my mom made
pairs; she made strings of beads
and I made cherry earrings.
We also took pictures. (right)

Bow & Arrow with pouch set

I made a bow & arrow set out of three sticks. Then, I took a fake sword pouch and I use that to store the bow and arrow. I got the idea because I played with my friend and she had a bow so I made a bow and arrow. Here I'll list the steps to make the bow and arrow set:
In this craft case, I used the strongest tape I had.
  1. Take a pretty bendy long curved stick and wash it off.
  2. Then, tie a stretchy string to each end of the stick. (if needed, tape the string on)
  3. For the arrow, take a long stick, as straight as possible, and put a piece of tape about 1 and 1/2 of your own hand away from the bottom so that's how long the stick needs to be.
  4. Find a case to put the bow and arrow in. (not necessary)

Inspector Camera Glasses

Just now, I made two pairs of "inspector glasses" for my brother and I. They are pairs of old sunglasses which I attached plastic pepper and salt shaker lids to. On my pair of glasses I taped a glass soda bottle cap in the middle of the pepper cap. On my brother's, I put an X of two toothpicks behind the salt cap. I got the idea from the movie Toy Story Two. I really don't know what my brother is doing with them, but he's wearing them.

Cool box (finished!!!!)

I finished the box I started a week ago on Saturday the 30th (yesterday)! It turned out really well! We (me and my mom and dad) made the box half size and eliminated dividers to make it easier but it was still pretty hard to make. The box is made like a book so you begin with just a box then, you wrap and glue a book cover like part around it. The whole thing is a hard posterboard box,you make, with fabric glued onto it.

Home-made earrings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today I made a pair of earrings because last night I bought a set of the dangly kind of earring hooks (the part you put in your ear only ) while I was shopping for cardboard for my box with my mom. I folded up two paper stars (I have a kit) and then looped string through the earring hook and then, taped that to the star. I bought the hooks at Michaels.

Home!

I got home from school late today because after school I do a thing with a few different kids called Exploravision. What it is is a contest that kids enter where they are supposed to take a "technology" ( such as a pencil or pretty much anything) and improve it as it would be in twenty years. Our invention for last year was the G-Cleaner which is an automatic gutter cleaning system. We thought of that because one member mentioned, while we were trying to think of ideas, how hard it was to clean out your gutter. So we made up a machine that could be installed to your gutter and it would clean automaticlly! This year, we are making a robot that has an air compressor inside of it and it pumps your car tires at home so that you don't have to go to the gas station. This robot is called the Air-Bot. One thing that we came up with as a quality of this Air-Bot is that you can customize it with stickers and themes and accesories. We aren't done with the project yet, but we will be soon!

Ceramic Cat

Have you ever been to CeramiCafe? If you have, you know that at CeramiCafe you can buy a ceramic figure or dish, such as a dog, a penguin, or you could also get a bowl or a plate, and you get to paint the object with paint. At this place they have different places to sit and you can get a tile-shaped palette and you can go and get different colors and use different tools like a paintbrush or sponge, and at the place they even have paints that are in special tubes that you just squirt out directly onto your figure and it leaves a sort of sticking out line.Once, when I went to CeramiCafe, (I went for my birthday I think) I painted two ceramic cats. Once you finish painting, you leave your art at the place and the people who work there put it in the kiln and then, you have to go pick it up. I only have one of the cats because I gave away one as a gift.

Cool box

I found out about a craft book from my grandma, which she had used to make herself a sewing box. The book is called Making decorative fabric-covered boxes. My grandma let me borrow the book and use it to make a box. The box I am going to make is a doll's suitcase. No picture yet, I haven't finished making the box!

Notebook cover

I had a plain old composition notebook that was filled with stuff I didn't really want so I ripped out the pages and made a cover for it out of some cool wrapping paper I had from Borders. Then, I put a label sticker on it and wrote my name on that.I got the idea from a craft book called My big creative activity book.

Watermelon Head!!!!

Here is a collage picture I made out of an old magazine that I found around the house. It has a watermellon head, a mannequin body, googly eyes, and other scraps that make up the figure's surroundings.

Jean-Bags

I checked out a craft book from the library, Make It!, by one of my favorite craft book authors, Jane Bull, and inside was a project where you could make your own jean-bag.
It just so happened that I had a few pairs of old jeans that my friend gave me, so I used one of them to make a bag.

After making the first bag, I had enough material left over to make a second, smaller bag which I use for a pencil case.

Paper Moccasins

A few days ago, I made a pair of moccasins with a few pieces of paper I found lying around. I had been wanting to do so, since at school I was reading about Native Americans and how they made moccasins.
